Invitation: "Dragon Boat Racing Party" at my Chinese school

Dear students

I really want to show my appreciation for your continued hard work and positive attitudes towards my class. So, I have a proposal. As you may know, the Dragon Boat Festival is very important in Chinese culture. Also, in my classes, I believe that learning the language isn't only about grammar, speaking, comprehension and other such things; it’s also about providing some cultural background and encouraging you to explore it.

.

So, I want to invite you to a special occasion at my school, a kind of school open day in the form of a "Dragon Boat Racing Party”. I will prepare some snacks and soft drinks and organize a fun "Dragon Boat Competition". You are also free to bring your own beer if you like.

Obviously, I’ll understand if you can’t make it but it’s a chance to meet and get to know some other students who study with me. You can come alone or bring some friends along if you prefer. Ask your partner or whoever you choose really. Just let me know if you can come in advance and how many people will be attending with you so I can prepare properly.

I’m not sure which day suits most people, so if you could RSVP when you get the chance.

The dates I’m proposing is:

~~~~~Next Sunday June 5 (from 13:30 till about 15:30.)
Answer in my Facebook page or reply me by email,please.
Thanks for your time!
Comment
Pauline is an excellent teacher. She's very patient and fully dedicated to her pupils. Even though we all have different levels in the class, she always makes entertaining and fascinating classes. Pauline is extremely patient and tolerant, and it's for me such a great pleasure to attend her classes every weeks.
Last workshop we had, she came to the class with some amulets we had to make. Very fun and not only this, but we had a full class concerning some Chinese ancient believes and tradition.
Once she even came with some Aka traditional food, that e all shared together. Absolutely amazing!
To sum up, if you want to learn mandarin with a nice and very efficient smiling teacher , full of stories and good examples , Pauline is definitely the teacher you need !
Have a nice weekend and see you on Monday
You are so kind :)
One student's comment about my class.
I am enjoying my Chinese class very much: the lessons are challenging and helpful to remember
new vocabulary. Words and structures come with cultural explanations, that are always interesting and sometimes even bizarre... but this is Chinese for western people!... !... ...and this is the way we learn!!!!!
In class we practise the content of the lesson with games and activities which make my time pleasant and funny ...and really cheer me up while I am struggling with the Chinese language! "
Thank you 莉佳.It really encourages me a lot.
当幸福来敲门(dānɡ xìnɡ fú lái qiāo mén )The Pursuit of Happiness
The Pursuit of Happyness" -- the title comes from a misspelled schoolhouse mural -- has a lot on its mind but mostly this: If America is about the promise of bettering oneself, why does it have to be so freaking hard? In the movie, Jefferson's Declaration of Independence words about happiness kept recurring to Chris Gardner.
Every day, Christ had to work hard from morning till night, but still could hardly make a living. Chris saw a bunch of suits, mostly male, pouring out of the Dean Witter Reynolds brokerage firm in downtown San Francisco. They all looked “happy,” “Why not me? “ Christ wondered. He did have an adorable boy, Christopher, but wife Linda was becoming a scarecrow of overworked anxiety. Finally, his wife left Christ because of life pressure, leaving him and her five-year-old son, Christopher. And naturally, Christ became a single father.
With the failure of his business, Christ had no money to pay for the rent, so they were driven away from the flat. They became homeless. They slept in asylum, subway station public bathroom or anywhere as a temporary shelter. The destitution of life was absolutely depressing, but for his son’s future, for his own belief, Christ never gave up and he still strongly believed that happiness would come one day if he worked hard enough today.
With his great efforts, Christ won a six-month internship at Dean Witter, but there was no pay at all. So on one hand, Christ had to work hard to make a living; on the other hand, he had to fight for his intern work, since only one of the twenty interns would succeed finally. Besides, he had to take good care of his son after day care. However, Christ made it with his amazing willpower.
Chris Gardner’s words
Rú ɡuǒ nǐ yǒu mènɡ xiǎnɡ, jiù yào shǒu hù tā .
如果你有梦想,就要守护它。
You got a dream, you gotta protect it.
Dānɡ rén men zuò bú dào yì xiē shì qínɡ de shí hou , tā men jiù huì duì nǐ shuō nǐ yě tónɡ yànɡ bù nénɡ.
当人们做不到一些事情的时候,他们就会对你说你也同样不能。
People can't do something by themselves; they wanna tell you you can not do it.
Yǒu le mù biāo jiù yào quán lì yǐ fù.
有了目标就要全力以赴。
You want something. Go get it!
Mǎ dīnɡ : rú ɡuǒ wǒ ɡù yōnɡ le yí ɡè méi yǒu chuān zhuó chèn shān zǒu jìn lái de rén, nǐ huì zěn me shuō ?
马丁:如果我雇佣了一个没有穿着衬衫走进来的人,你会怎么说?
Martin Frohm: What would you say if a man walked in here with no shirt, and I hired him? What would you say?
Kè lǐ sī • jiā dé nà : tā yí dìnɡ chuān le yì tiáo hěn bànɡ de kù zi.
克里斯•加德纳:他一定穿了一条很棒的裤子。
Chris Gardner: He must have had on some really nice pants.
Wǒ shì zhè yànɡ de rén ,rú ɡuǒ nǐ wèn de wèn tí wǒ bù zhī dào dá àn ,wǒ huì zhí jiē ɡào su nǐ “ wǒ bù zhī dào ”.dàn wǒ xiànɡ nǐ bǎo zhènɡ : wǒ zhī dào rú hé xún zhǎo dá àn ,ér qiě wǒ yí dìnɡ huì zhǎo chū dá àn de .
我是这样的人,如果你问的问题我不知道答案,我会直接告诉你“我不知道”。但我向你保证:我知道如何寻找答案,而且我一定会找出答案的。
I'm the type of person, if you ask me a question, and I don't konw the answer, I'm gonna to tell you that I don't konw. But I bet you what: I konw how to find the answer, and I'll find the answer.
Bié rànɡ bié rén ɡào su nǐ nǐ chénɡ bù liǎo cái , jí shǐ shì wǒ yě bù xínɡ 。
别让别人告诉你你成不了才,即使是我也不行。
Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something, not even me.
I am proud of my student.
在一個足夠長的時間線,每個人的存活率下降到零
Can you believe this is translated by one of my beginner students?
He translated the scrip from movie "Fight Club" :On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
I am so proud of him. I am so glad he has highly interested in Chinese.
Good job 大衛!
